1. Overview

Defunction Studios values your privacy. This Site is designed to collect as little data as possible — no accounts, no cookies for tracking, and no ad networks. This policy covers our website (defunctionstudios.com), and touches on our Discord server and Roblox group where relevant.

2. What We Collect

Our built-in analytics (see api/track.php) record, per page visit:

• Path viewed — e.g. "/" or "/changelog".
• Approximate device type — desktop, mobile, or tablet, inferred from your browser's user-agent string.
• Referring domain — e.g. "discord.com" or "direct", not the full URL.
• Section engagement — which parts of the homepage (Announcements, Games, Roadmap, etc.) scrolled into view.
• Button clicks — whether you clicked "Join Roblox Group" or "Join Discord", so we can gauge conversion, not who clicked.

We do not store your IP address, name, email, or any cookie-based identifier. To count unique visitors without identifying you, we compute a one-way salted hash (IP + browser user-agent + daily salt) at the moment of your visit — the raw IP is never written to disk, and the hash cannot be reversed back into an IP address.

3. What We Don't Collect

We don't use third-party ad trackers, fingerprinting scripts, or cross-site cookies. We don't sell or share any data with advertisers.

4. Roblox & Discord

When you join our Roblox group or Discord server, your Roblox username/avatar or Discord username/avatar becomes visible to us and other members through those platforms' own systems — that data is governed by Roblox's and Discord's respective privacy policies, not this one. Our Site may display public Discord avatars/usernames of staff members who've opted in.

5. Data Retention

Aggregate analytics (pageviews, section views, device/referrer breakdowns) are retained for a rolling 90 days and then automatically discarded. Admin activity logs (staff logins/edits) are capped at the most recent 200 entries.

6. Cookies & Local Storage

We do not set tracking cookies. The admin panel uses a session cookie strictly for staff login state, which is not used to track visitors.

7. Children's Privacy

Our Site is not directed at collecting personal information from children. Since we don't collect names, emails, or other identifying details, no personal data is knowingly gathered from any visitor, regardless of age.

8. Your Choices

You can browse our Site with analytics effectively blind by using browser privacy modes, ad blockers, or "Do Not Track" extensions that block `navigator.sendBeacon`/`fetch` calls to our domain — this will not affect site functionality.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may revise this Privacy Policy as our Site evolves. The "Last updated" date at the top will always reflect the most recent revision.
